The U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, Anne Patterson, expressed the United States' happiness about the turn in Egyptian society towards democracy while meeting with members of the Supreme Electoral Committee Sunday. She said turnout exceeded 62 percent, the highest figure in Egyptian history. Paterson called on SEC members, headed by Abdel Moez Ibrahim, to persist during the second and third phases and try to prevent the mistakes of the first phase. Ibrahim said the Ambassador presented judicial assistance. “Washington is ready to present any judicial assistants if the SEC asks,” said Patterson. She said that the entire world was surprised when the elections were held on schedule in spite of difficulties and security pressures. “This is a step towards democracy and the handover of authority to civilians instead of the military council,” said Patterson.
