JERUSALEM: Israeli ambassador to Egypt Yitzhak Levanon expects Cairo to cut diplomatic ties with Israel in light of the Muslim Brotherhood's sweeping mandate from the recent elections, reported Israeli newspaper Maariv. “Israel has good ties with the Egyptian authorities and Israel is maintaining remote communication with Egypt,” Levanon said. “We began seeing extremist positions against Israel after the fall of Hosni Mubarak,” Levanon said. “The Egyptian media attacks us as well.” “The Egyptians hate us,” he said. “I do not think we were wise to not interfere in the overthrow of the old regime,” Levanon continued. “No one though the regime would fall like a house of cards,” he added, alluding to the 18-day uprising in Tahrir Square last January. Commenting on the Israeli embassy attack last summer, Levanon said that he will never forget the night and remembers the six diplomats who were surrounded in the embassy reporting that Egyptians were shouting, “Yitzhak … Yitzhak.”
