CAIRO: The Egyptian Red Sea Port Authority today denied reports published by Egyptian media outlets that tear gas from the United States had arrived via the Suez Canal. “There is no cargo of this type in the Suez Canal,” reported Port Authority Chairman Mohammad Abdel Qader Gaballah. “If anything had arrived, it would have been months ago because it was affliated with the Ministry of the Interior.” “Entering cargo requires certain measures due to Egyptian security,” Gaballah continued. “What some Suez residents said regarding the refusal to allow tear gas into Egypt is baseless,” he said. “No one notified us about this matter.” Gaballah called on media outlets to confirm information and not incite public opinion. Egyptian media outlets on Monday evening reported that the Suez Canal refused a seven-ton cargo load of dangerous tear gas canisters bound for the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior. The reports were corroborated with official documents detailing the cargo.
