CAIRO: The Egyptian New Independents Party today praised the first round of parliamentary elections, saying “the Egyptian people proved their awareness by insisting in participating in the electoral process.” “Violations committed by some parties will not affect the success of the elections,” the Party continued in a statement released today. “The elections cleansed the poor image drawn by some media outlets, particularly after the January 25 Revolution.” Party Spokesman Mahmoud Abdel-Kareem today demanded that those who did not participate yesterday go to the polling stations and case their ballots. He also urged Egyptians to ignore any rumors that seek to divide people and raise skepticism over the democratic process. He also called on the ruling military council to overcome the violations and mistakes made on the first day of the elections, and investigate the incidents that affected the process.
