The Salafi Front distributed copies of a statement among protesters in Tahrir Square, putting forward its vision to get out of the ongoing crisis. The statement criticized the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), but the front announced that they would not participate in the mass demonstrations in Tahrir Square against the SCAF, although some Salafis have participated. The statement discussed the speech of Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the head of the SCAF, regarding a timetable for the transition of power to an elected president by June. The statement criticized the SCAF for not realizing the legitimate demands of Tahrir Square, listed as setting a timetable for the handover of authority, trying those who shot demonstrators, and forming a national salvation government. Moreover, they said that this government should include ministers from the Salafi movement, singling out appropriate ministries for their appointment. The revolution in its second phase is still peaceful, the statement said. It called for an end to bloodshed and protecting the country's institutions and infrastructure. The front pointed out that the referendum proposed by the SCAF gives an impression of their tenacity of authority. It asserted that the SCAF lacks legitimacy because its six-month transitional period ended and it allowed demonstrators' blood to be shed.
