CAIRO: Egypt's Supreme Council of Armed Forces did not take authority by referendum for them to leave it by referendum, said Egyptian presidential candidate Abdullah al-Ashaal who noted the council has no legal right to stay in power after failing to achieve the revolution's demands. SCAF only focused on political alliances between it and certain political powers, ignoring the people's will, al-Ashaal added. Al-Ashaal also said Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi's statement on Tuesday evening does not satisfy Egyptians in Tahrir or the Egyptian streets. The presidential candidate also called for forming a salvation government after the military council's failure to run Egypt's affairs properly. He said the abundant tear gas being used on Tahrir protesters is genocide against the Egyptian people and he holds Tantawi responsible for these atrocities. Al-Ashaal said he will take all possible legal procedures to protect protesters in Tahrir. He announced he would hold a global press conference on Thursday, calling for an investigation in to the incidents of killing protesters and globalizing the case. As far as his presidential campaign is concerned, al-Ashaal decided to suspend his campaign to support the protesters.
