Member of the Israeli Knesset Benjamin Bin-Eliezer warned of the increasing Muslim Brotherhood (MB) influence in Egypt, and called on Israel to prepare for a potential conflict with Egypt. Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted the Israeli official as saying recent developments in Egypt indicate “Israel will eventually find itself in a confrontation with Egypt.” The Israeli official told the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, "Israel should prepare for potential conflict with Egypt," adding that relations will witness “a strong earthquake.” He said the conflict would not occur in the near future, what with Egypt's upcoming parliamentary elections. He also said it is clear the Muslim Brotherhood will gain one third of the parliamentary seats for the first time in Egypt, expecting an Islamic trend to replace the national one. He added "no one can predict what Egypt's new leadership will be like." Bin-Eliezer said "A confrontation with Egypt should definitely be taken in to account, especially as North Sinai is now like a terrorist zone.”
