CAIRO: Lila Soueif, the mother of detained Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel-Fatah, today went on a hunger strike in protest. Fatah is a blogger and member of the January 25 Revolution youth. He is accused of inciting violence between Christian Copts and the military forces. He is charged with four crimes: 1. Stealing a military gun 2. Sabotaging military properties deliberately 3. Assailing military soldiers 4. Protesting and using violence against military forces Soueif is an Egyptian political activist and professor of science at Cairo University as well as a founding member of the Labor Group for University Independency and a member of the Egyptian Association Against Torture. Egyptian activists on Twitter called for a march on Monday at 1:00 p.m. to demand the release of Fatah, to support his mother's hunger strike and to protest military trials for civilians. The march will kick-off at Talaat Harb Street in Cairo and head to the High Judiciary Court headquarters. The Public Prosecution has been notified that Fatah's mother is engaging in a hunger strike to protest her son's detention.
