The International Monetary Fund mission, which concluded a visit to Cairo last night, said the coming short to medium term economic potential of Egypt seems "promising." However, maintaining macroeconomic stability and social cohesion amid growth prospects appears modest in the short term and the weakness of the external environment remains a difficult challenge. The mission praised the progress achieved by Egypt in meeting these challenges and implementing a comprehensive action plan for growth and job creation, expressing the aspirations of the IMF to continue to work with the Egyptian authorities. This was all said in a press release issued by Ratna Sahi, Deputy Director of Central Asia and the Middle East and Head of IMF mission in Egypt. The press release came at the end of the IMF visit to Cairo from October 27 through November 3, at the request of Egypt. The request was made to take advantage of recent economic developments and to assess financing needs. The mission expressed its appreciation to the Egyptian authorities for conducting the discussions.
