CAIRO: Egypt plays an important role in preventing an Israeli war on the Gaza Strip if jihadist missiles continue to strike Israeli towns, said Israel Amos Gilad, the director of policy and political-military affairs at the Israeli Ministry of Defense. Israel is currently communicating with Egyptian officials to prevent a possible war with Gaza and to reach out to Palestinian factions to negotiate a truce, he told Kol Israel. Egypt has a pivotal role in achieving stability in the region, he continued, while expressing his appreciation of Egypt's continued mediatory efforts. Gilad declined to comment when asked about the Israeli government decision to continue military operations in the Gaza Strip after an Egyptian request for a ceasefire. Israel wants a truce and wants to avoid war with Gaza, added Gilad.
