Link: , CAIRO: The mother of Egyptian martyr Khaled Said, Laila Marzouk, gave a speech today from the main stage in Cairo's iconic Tahrir Square. “Today, I have sent another son to heaven,” said the mother of the young man who's death helped catalyze Egypt's January uprising. She said she took part in the funeral and march in support of torture victim Essam Ali Atta today because Egyptian police still torture prisoners. They will not stop until they “destroy the youth of Egypt,” she said. Said died while in police custody in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria on June 6, 2010. His brutal death became a rallying cry for many Egyptians. “Alone I am weak, but I feel stronger when I see the revolutionaries in Tahrir Square,” said Marzouk. Regarding the outcome of the trial of those accused of murdering her son, she said, “I do not understand how my son's murderer received only seven years in prison, while those who took part in the revolution against corruption were sentenced to 15 years.” Overcome by emotion, she finished her speech with the words, “God will judge them.”
