Potential presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh stressed the importance of Egyptian farmers, saying they play a critical role in the Egyptian society. He demanded the government offer the necessary support for farmers and agriculture. Aboul Fotouh said, during a visit to the “Sahari exhibition for Agriculture and Irrigation” Tuesday, that the agricultural system in Egypt suffered from neglect during the former regime, which deteriorated the position of farmers. He added that the current period is in need of cooperation among different authorities to help the farmer perform his role, paving the way to self-sufficiency. He stressed that the main priority for his electoral program is to achieve self-sufficiency of food.
