The Supreme Committee for Elections decided for the second time in less than a week to extend the nomination period for parliamentary elections by a 48-hour period, rather than Saturday only. The committee made the decision to provide equal opportunities for political parties and independent candidates. Yousry Abdel Karim, head of the committee's technical office, said the committee extended the nomination period to meet a number of political parties' demands after it was scheduled to end Saturday. This is the second extension granted by the elections committee, as the nomination period was scheduled to end on Oct. 18. The committee extended it to Oct. 22 before extending it for two days.
