Fifteen Telecom Egypt employees began a hunger strike to protest the arrest of five of their colleagues who were charged of attempting to murder Mohamed Abdel Rahim. Workers in Opera Square, Ramses Square, Alexandria, Luxor, and Upper Egypt staged sit-ins in solidarity. Protestors said that they began their hunger strike on Tuesday evening to pressure the Minister of Communications to dismiss Telecom Egypt's Board of Directors. They also sought an investigation of the company's leadership, in accordance with a report by the Central Auditing Agency about violations of the Governing Council. The stressed that their demands are not sectarian and they do not aim to increase their salaries, but seek only to purge the company from remnants of the former regime. The strikers said they would not end their strike unless their demands are met. They argued that the dissolution of the management and the investigation would prevent further misuse of company funds of the company in the long term, and would improve the working conditions at the company.
