The Swiss Attorney-General allowed the Egyptian Illicit Gains Authority to acquire assets belonging to ousted president Hosni Mubarak's sons in Swiss banks estimated at U.S $340 million (2 billion EGP), according to an Egyptian Judge. Alaa Mubarak is estimated to have had U.S. $300 million (1.8 billion EGP) in Swiss banks, while Gamal Mubarak's Swiss accounts are estimated to hold U.S. $40 million (238.4 million EGP). The head of the authority, Judge Assem al-Gouhary, said that he also decided to acquire 24 billion EGP (U.S. $4 billion) belonging to fugitive businessman Hussein Salem and his family. Gouhary said that the judicial committee informed its representative law firm in Switzerland to oversee the Swiss investigations of Alaa Mubarak and former Minister of Tourism Zouheer Garana. Both defendants presented an appeal to the Swiss Attorney-General through their lawyers to prevent the judicial committee from checking the investigation's files. The law firm met the Swiss Attorney-General and explained to him the nature of the cases against both defendants. Afterwards the judge declined the defendants appeal, according to Gouhary. link: Switzerland investigates illegal activities of Mubarak's sons
