A veteran journalist has given testimony to Egyptian authorities about former President Hosni Mubarak's alleged wealth, judicial sources said on Monday. The journalist, Mohamed Hassanein Heikal, gave his testimony to Egypt's Illicit Gains Authority (IGA), part of the Ministry of Justice. In an interview with Al-Ahram newspaper, Heikal said he has documented information about Mubarak's wealth. He estimates the former president has US$11 billion in the US. Heikal said he has two reports, one of which includes information from the World Bank and conforms to CIA reports that estimate Mubarak's US funds at $9 billion to $10 billion. The other cites the Swiss government and Union de Banques Suisses (Union of Swiss Banks), saying that nine of the Mubaraks have Swiss bank accounts, including an estimated 512 million Swiss francs, Heikal said. Heikal said the figure was officially confirmed by a Swiss delegation visiting Egypt.
