CAIRO: Egypt's Supreme Administrative Court today cancelled the decision refusing the formation of two new political party. The Parties Affairs Committee earlier rejected requests to form the Construction and Development Party, affiliated with the Gamaa al-Islamiyya, and al-Ghad al-Gedid Party (the New al-Ghad Party). The first party was rejected because its foundations are based on Islam (religiously-based political parties are forbidden in Egypt), and the second because its title was too similar to the current al-Ghad Party. According to the court verdict, both parties will start their duties on Tuesday. Monday's verdict corrected a mistake committed by the Parties Affairs Committee, according to Tareq el-Zumar, founder of Construction and Development Party. El-Zumar said the call to apply Sharia, Islamic Law, in Egypt is compatible with the constitution and all laws and that there is no reason to refuse the party. He also called on all political and Islamic powers in Egypt to be optimistic about the new area begun with Monday's verdict, which he considered another victory for Egypt's January 25 Revolution, which toppled the country's former regime earlier this year.
