Azza Abdel Hameed, the student participant in the Library of Alexandria's exhibition for Science and Engineering, ‘Intel Passive,' won the award for Arbitration Commission in the European Union competition for young scientists in its 23rd round. The exhibition was organized by El Qobba el-Samaweya scientific center at the library. Hameed received the award for her project “Ethanol production by cracking of plastic waste polyethylene.” It is the first time Egypt participates in this competition. It participated with three projects in the field of environmental science, in coordination with the Library of Alexandria exhibition for Science and Engineering and the program of Research and Development Innovation (RDI). The awards ceremony was held at the University of Helsinki, Finland from September 23-28. Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Science in the Government of Finland and the European Commission, Deputy Director General for Research and Innovation presented the awards. More than 130 students from 37 countries participated in the competition. 87 projects were presented and covered many subjects in fields including: biology, chemistry, accounting, social studies, environment, mathematics, engineering, and medicine.
