CAIRO: All political parties in the Egyptian Democratic Alliance will run for the Egyptian parliamentary elections of the Peoples' Assembly via one proportional representation (PR) list, according to the chairman of the Justice and Freedom Party and head of the Muslim Brotherhood's (MB) political wing, Mohammad Morsi. Meanwhile, chairman of Al-Wafd Party, Hamdeen Sabahi pointed out his party will run for parliamentary elections with two PR lists. Morsi said in a statement all parties will conduct electoral coordination to create a parliament that will achieves the Egyptian January 25 Revolutions' demands. Consultations among parties are being conducted to arrange and organize the PR lists' aim to form a national majority in the parliament. The statement highlighted the parties' assistance on amending article no. 5 of the Law of Peoples' Assembly and Shura Council after Egypt's ruling military council agrees to amend to this article. Article no. 5 states any independent candidate running for elections for parliament cannot belong to any political party. If independent candidates join a political party, their membership will be withdrawn by a two-thirds majority of the People's Assembly. The parties also insisted implementing the demands on the military council agreement, including canceling the Emergency Law and issuing a decree of political exclusion against members of dissolved National Democratic Party (NDP). The statement highlighted the military council and police's responsibility to secure the process of parliamentary elections. Founder of Misruna Party, Rami Lakah, said the Alliance is now in “intensive care” since the MB does not seek to continue. The Alliance and Al-Wafd Party are moving away little by little. Member of the Labor Party, Magdi Qarqar, said the parties stressed the Alliance's presence is significant during this critical period. He added the Alliance refused to run for the elections with two PR lists. If Al-Wafd Party submitted its own list, this list will not belong to the Alliance. Lakah also noted the Justice and Freedom Party will be in the Alliance although the Alliance already has one party.
