The gas flow to homes, power stations, and industrial areas has been stopped, said the General Secretary of North Sinai Governorate Tuesday. A gas station exploded in the “Al-Midan” region southeast of the city of Arish, prompting the gas closure. Gaber al-Arabi said the governorate closed gas valves to prevent the flow to the station and closed gas pumps at power stations in Arish that run off of natural gas. The closure halts gas flows to 2,500 homes in the “Masaied” district of Arish, industrial regions in mid-Sinai, and gas exports to Israel. An official at Gasco Company said they followed up on the situation at the affected station to assess the damage to equipment and repair needs. The official said stored gas should last for days, and power stations will operate on other alternatives.
