The Ministry of Education appointed the former Secretary of the Women's Secretariat of the dissolved National Democratic Party (NDP) in Maadi. Nasra Mesk was elected as chairman of the Central Department for Financial Affairs. The appointment of Mesk caused considerable controversy within the ministry. Mesk said she was a member of the NDP since 2002 until the Egyptian January 25 Revolution. She said she was a member due to her interest in philanthropy and community work, and she joined the party since it facilitated her work to give services to children and families of the Maadi district. "I refuse to be attacked as a member of the NDP because I did not participate in the decision-making and its political orientations. I managed to get my current position in the ministry through my own efforts and credentials," she said. She said the January 25 Revolution calls for equality, which she believes cannot be achieved if all former members of the NDP were not permitted to contribute to the society.
