CAIRO: Seven Israelis from Beer Sheba died after they took heroin laced with rat poison, according to the Israeli newspaper Maariv. The tainted heroin came from Egypt, the paper said. Beer Sheba is known for the hashish (marijuana) and heroin trade, especially on Sanhedrin Street. Israel faces a shortage of heroin after campaigns launched by Israeli police, so heroin is imported from Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt, Maariv reported. Smugglers have had more difficulty moving drugs across the Egyptian-Israeli border due to the presence of Israeli police and Egyptian soldiers.
