CAIRO: Egyptian oil companies started to carry out Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum's plan to provide the bakeries' with natural gas instead of diesel, said the CEO of Egyptian Town Gas, Saif el-Islam Abdel Fatah. Abdel Fatah added there is coordination between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the company to carry out the plan throughout Egyptian governorates. The plan aims to provide gas to 24,000 bakeries. Around 1,000 bakeries in five governorates will be provided by gas, including Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said and Ismalia. The company provided the owners of bakeries facilities to pay for gas, which could be worth between 2,000 – 4,000 EGP (U.S. $335.5 - $671) and the cost of fire extinguishers will be reduced to 7,500 EGP (U.S. $1,258). Providing natural gas instead of diesel can save approximately 100 EGP (U.S. $16.8) per barrel to the owner of the bakery, Abdel Fatah said.
