CAIRO: Only 2.6 percent of all schools in Egypt have been hit by teachers' strikes, according to statistics issued today by Egypt's Ministry of Education. The statistics indicate that 1,097 schools have been affected by strikes out of more than 45,000 schools in the country. The statistics revealed that the strikes swept Egypt's 27 governorates to different degrees. In Suez there were strikes at 105 schools, Giza saw strikes at 179, Aswan 133, and 28 in Marsa Matrough. All of Egypt's other governorates saw strikes as well. According to Ayman Bialy, the spokesperson of the Independent Union of Teachers, the strike has reached 80 percent of the country and will continue to escalate until the teachers' demands are met.
