CAIRO: The emergency law will be applied until 2012 to combat riots, according Mamdouh Shaheen, Assistant Minister of Defense for legal affairs and member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF). Shaheen said the emergency law condemns thuggery, vandalism, causing confusion, owning weapons and ammunition, terrorism, the drug trade and threatening national security. “The emergency law does not condemn peaceful protest. However vandalism should be faced,” said Shaheen.
