Defense Ministry: Security situation reason for amending Emergency Law

CAIRO: The lack of public security in Egypt is the main cause for the amendment of the Emergency Law, said Mamdouh Shaheen, Egyptian Assistant Minister of Defense for legal affairs.
Shaheen said the expansion of the emergency law came as a result of the security disorder witnessed in Egypt.
Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), amended the emergency law Sunday, adding more criminal offenses, among them publishing “false news or rumors.”
