The Israeli army claims shots were fired at Israeli border patrols from the Egyptian side of the border. The patrols were near the city of Eliat, in Israel. The Israeli army announced a State of Emergency and its readiness to face any risk from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. Israeli newspapers Maariv, Yedioth Ahronoth and Hareetz and Israeli army radio reported that Israeli forces near the country's southern border with Israel were shot at. The Israeli forces did not announce any injuries or fatalities in the Israeli army so far. An Israeli army spokesman announced the State of Emergency. She said the army was ready at the border, but will not shoot back across the border.
