Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Salah Yusef today announced that in coordination with the Ministry of Finance an initiative will be launched to invest one billion EGP (U.S. $167 million) in Egyptian research centers and scientific institutes. The minister also promised to create at least 5,000 jobs and increase the salaries of staffers with temporary contracts. “Steps must be taken to improve the distribution of fertilizers in Egypt,” Yusef said today in remarks for the Celebration of Fellah at Cairo Stadium. “We must also create a new system to regulate the relationship between the landlord and the tenant.” The annual celebration gave farmers from different provinces the opportunity to air their grievances and demands regarding ownership of land, distribution of fertilizers and seeds and irrigation issues. .
