Egyptian presidential candidate Amr Moussa said he received promises from Saudi officials who said they would solve the problem of the Egyptian pilgrims stranded at Jeddah airport after Hajj, the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. The promises came after Moussa made some intensive calls to Egyptian and Saudi figures in an attempt to find solutions. The problem began as a result of cancelling flights from Saudi Arabia to Cairo. Around 4,000 Egyptian pilgrims are stranded in Jeddah. There was a state of anger among the Egyptian pilgrims because of the lack of information about any flights heading to Cairo. The Egyptian Consulate in Jeddah said it succeeded in solving the problems of thousands of Egyptian pilgrims stranded at Jeddah airport by organizing the return of 4,000 pilgrims on 9 flights. They said there are 1,400 pilgrims still waiting in Jeddah, and they are expected to return to Cairo during the next few hours. Moussa expressed his worries about the situation after receiving many calls from Egyptians there demanding a solution to their problem. Moussa is following the situation from Italy, where he is attending the International Economic Conference. Moussa was formerly the Secretary General of the Arab League before resigning the position in May.
