Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf welcomed the U.S. ambassador, Anne Paterson, in Cairo today. They will discuss the latest developments in the region, before the important meeting with the ministers and some governors. The Council of Ministers is expected to decide the system of hiring academic leadership through elections, after a thorough review to the status of the public universities. Also they will start the procedures of establishing the first governmental university in Sinai Peninsula. The meeting will also discuss the security situation and the governmental preparation for Eid el-Fitr, feast at the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan. There will be laws released in a military edict, including the amendment of the social security law, organizing challenges, anti-monopoly and other cases. The Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister, Ali El-Selmi, presented the results of the meeting with parties and political and national forces' representatives on August 25. This meeting was held to discuss Egypt's situation after the Israeli attacks on Egyptian-Israeli borders.
