Egyptian Minister of Interior Mansour el-Issawy approved granting Egyptian citizenship to 685 children of Egyptian women married to non-Egyptians. Egyptian citizenship was granted to 627 Palestinians, 13 Sudanese, seven Libyans, six Jordanians, five Yemenis, five Syrians, 3 Lebanese, 5 Italians, 2 Iraqis, and one citizen from Chad, Austria, the U.K., Canada, the U.S., Tunisia, Greece, Portugal, France, India, and Australia. Egypt, along with other countries, does not automatically grant citizenship to children born to Egyptian mothers and non-Egyptian fathers. All children born to Egyptian fathers are automatically granted Egyptian citizenship.
