CAIRO: The Subcommittee of the Supreme Committee for Elections today prepared a list of names of those eligible to participate in the coming elections, said Head of the Supreme Committee for Elections Moez Ibrahim. Egypt is currently making preparations for the People's Assembly and Shura Council elections, the first elections held since the January 25 Revolution toppled former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. “The list includes all those holding an Egyptian identification card, roughly 50 million names,” Ibrahim said. “The committee will announce the list of those eligible on August 31.” “The list will not include names of those currently detained,” he added. “The excluded person list has 28,000 names, all of whom are in prison or charged for illegal crimes,” he said. “The committed distributed the final electoral list in police stations, courts, the Public Security Department and the office of the Attorney General,” he continued. The chair of the follow-up committee, Same Abu Maatty, will track these lists and correct any mistakes. The committee will receive feedback regarding the list until September 25, Ibrahim added. "The next step is to ask the candidates to present their documents. The Forming Committee then will choose electoral symbols and supervise the elections,” he said. "The ruling military council will issue a law before the end of September dividing electoral districts," he added.
