Egypt's head of Supreme Elections Committee announces supervision framework

In his first public statement, the appointed head of the body newly formed to overview elections has announced the guidelines and procedures that will regulate the electoral process
Abdel-Moez Ibrahim, head of the newly formed Supreme Elections Committee, made his first statement about the policies that have been so far decided upon by the committee in supervising upcoming elections in Egypt.
Ibrahim stated that thatthe next electionswould be held underfull judicial supervisionin order to, as much as possible, make realthe slogan, “A judgeforevery ballot box.”
On the issue of expatriate Egyptians voting in the coming elections,Ibrahim stated that it is still understudyby the committee, adding that there is no means of placing judicial supervision over voting outside Egypt.
Ibrahim also identifed the other bodies that will be involved in supervising the elections, namely the General Prosecution, the State Council, the Administrative ProsecutionAuthorityand the Body of State Lawsuits.
He further explainedthat the voterwouldcast his votein twoboxes, onefor elections for the People's Assembly,and one for the Shura Council, pointing out that voter cards would be of different colours for each election.
A spokesman for the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces announced earlier in the week the new law that would govern the upcoming elections for the People's Assembly and the Shura Council.
During the press conference, the spokesman announced that elections would take place in a three-stage process, spanning 60 days.
