The Egyptian Islamic movement Gama'a al-Islamiyya (GA) will hold a press conference tomorrow outside the U.S. embassy in Cairo to voice its support for the family of the detained Omar Abdel-Rahman. The conference, attended by GA members Aboud el-Zomor and Essam Derbalah, will demand the release of Sheikh Abdel-Rahman from American prison. “Gama'a al-Islamiyya announced its support for the family before, but the latest incidents at the Israeli and Egyptian border and the sit-in at the Israeli embassy delayed the press conference,” said Abdel-Rahman's son. If the American authorities continue to ignore the demands, the protests will escalate, he continued. Shiekh Omar Abdel-Rahman, the blind leader, is currently serving a life sentence in American prison for his participation the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Abdel-Rahman's family has been staging a sit-in at the American embassy in Cairo.
