The Suez Canal on Saturday received 55 ships, mostly gas tankers, with a total tonnage of 3,000,018 passing to and from the Mediterranean and Red Seas. “The traffic in the channel is continuous and safe,” said Suez Canal Authority Director of Media Said Tarek Hassanein. “The largest load coming through the channel was the Makaines gas tanker, which is from the Marshall Islands, bears 166,000 tons from England and is headed to the United Arab Emirates,” said Hassanein. Another large tanker was the Marrouma, from the Bahamas, carrying 102,000 tons and headed from Qatar to Turkey.
