CAIRO: Clashes between Egyptian security forces and Tahrir street demonstrators attempting to enter the square erupted Friday evening. The military forces intervened and created human barriers between the protestors and the inner garden in Tahrir, to which protestors were headed. Some protestors, enraged at the blockade, began throwing stones toward security forces leading to multiple bouts of rock throwing from both sides. Amidst the chaos protestors began chanting, “Civil, Civil, Down, Down, Military Ruling.” The Sufis – who earlier in the day constructed a platform for Friday's demonstration –countered calls for civil rule by chanting in support of the ruling military council. Central security forces and military personnel beefed up security in the square and surrounding the inner garden.
