Tunisian authorities arrested 14 Egyptian fishermen for entering Tunisian waters illegally and fishing without a license, said Egypt's Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad Mohamed Abdel-Hakam said on Friday. Abdel-Hakam said, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Egyptian Embassy in Tunis are make the necessary contacts with the Tunisian authorities for the release of the fishermen and returning them home." He stressed the importance of respecting international laws and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. He said Egyptians should not enter the territorial waters of other countries illegally and fishing without a license or permit sot they will not face the penalties associated with such actions, including fines, imprisonment and the confiscation of fishing boats.
