Most Egyptians were not surprised to hear Imams reciting Chapter Three of The Amramites, which reads: “Say, ‘Our God, possessor of all sovereignty. You grant sovereignty to whomever You choose, You remove sovereignty from whomever you choose. You grant dignity to whomever You choose, and commit to humiliation whomever You choose. In Your hand are all provisions. You are Omnipotent.'” This verse is the third section of the thirty-part Quran. In a somewhat poetic fashion, the trial of former President Hosni Mubarak, his two sons Gamal and Alaa, fugitive businessman Hussein Salem, former Interior Minister and his six security chiefs began on the third day of the holy month of Ramadan. The message was not lost on most Egyptians, the trial illustrating Mubarak's historic fall from grace after allegedly ordering the killing of demonstrators during the January 25 Revolution which toppled his regime.
