Switzerland expressed strong support on Tuesday for Egypt's new national Smart Cities Strategy, describing it as a comprehensive framework that prioritises citizens in urban development, a statement by the Egyptian government said. The plan, launched by the ministry of housing, aims to embed technology and better governance in new cities to create safer, more efficient, and more sustainable communities. Swiss Ambassador to Egypt, Andreas Baum said Switzerland proudly supports the strategy alongside the World Bank, noting it would integrate international standards, inclusivity, and long-term sustainability. He added the effort represents the first step of a longer journey, with future implementation plans expected to cover emerging growth centres, industrial hubs, tourism and commercial destinations, and residential communities, the statement added. These projects should serve as pilots for scaling up efforts across Egypt's new cities, Baum said. Switzerland is confident that the new strategy would set Egypt on a path towards a future where smart and inclusive cities become a reality for all. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
