AL-GHARBEYA, Egypt: Doctors held a strike at Mehalla's public hospital, demanding the arrest of policemen who insulted them and threatened to shoot them if they didn't treat the policeman's colleague injured in squabble. The events started after Monday's Iftar (meal that breaks the fast in Ramadan) when a policeman from the hospital security left the service to eat at home in Abu-Shahin area when a quarrel took place. It led to the injury of the policeman and his brother with a bullet. When the policeman and the injured headed to the hospital with a number of their colleagues, they insulted and threatened the doctors to treat their colleague. This attitude from the policemen raised a state of panic and resentment among doctors, who decided to strike until the policemen were arrested. The manager of the hospital submitted a complaint to al-Gharbeya's security director. The security leader headed to the hospital attempting to convince the doctors to end their strike and resume work. The doctors refused and insisted on their situation.
