CAIRO: The role of the government is to protect peaceful demonstrators regardless whether those who attack are thugs or the residents of Abbasiya, said Nejad al-Borai, a human rights activist. Al-Borai blamed the police for not countering the attacks and arresting and prosecuting those who were involved in the incidents. During a phone call with the television program '10pm,' al-Borai said he accuses the security forces of neglecting their role of defending the protesters and demanded officials to conduct investigations with them. He said he was surprised of the ruling military council's speech that directed a lot of serious accusations towards the April 6 Youth movement. Al-Borai demanded from authorities to hold investigations that examine the authenticity of such accusations.
