CAIRO: Egypt's political powers have proposed a group of public figures to assume the office of prime minister and replace Essam Sharaf, who was nominated PM shortly after the resignation of Egypt's former president, Hosni Mubarak. Nominations included engineer Mamdouh Hamza, Dr. Hossam Essa, Mohamad el-Baradei, and Mohammad Abul Ghar. Meanwhile, demonstrators in Tahrir Square were divided into two, one crowd demanding to fire Sharaf immediately and the other requesting to giving him a period of time to form a new government. Some people believe Sharaf was already given a chance to achieve the revolution's demands but he did not use it appropriately; others believe he should be given a chance to form a new government. An anonymous demonstrator said Sharaf is a respectful person but Egypt needs a strong man who can take decisive decisions to achieve the revolution demands. Demonstrators also proposed appointing presidential nominee, Hisham el-Bastawisi, as Minister of Interior. Another demonstrator, Mohammad el-Sharqawi, said the real problem is in the cabinet itself, which does not enable Sharaf to take any crucial decisions. El-Sharqawi supports the idea of providing the Prime Minister a period time to form a new government.
