The Revolutionary Youth Union warns military council
Published in Youm7 on 10 - 07 - 2011

CAIRO: In their first day of strike, the union of the revolution youth demanded the military council to achieve the objectives of the January 25 revolution, saying that the people are the source of authority.
The union said that if the military council cannot meet the demands of Egyptians it should give its position to a civil presidential council that will be picked by the people. The union also expressed its resentment that officials have not yet responded to them.
The union demanded for Egypt's Prime Minister, Dr. Essam Sharaf, to return to Tahrir Square and establish a revolutionary government that will achieve the demands of the people. They union said it is the time to achieve the objectives of the revolution. It added that the people and the political powers gathering at Tahrir Square and other squares shows that people are insisting on their demands.
The union stressed on the necessity of speeding up the trials of the former President, Hosni Mubarak, and others involved in killing the peaceful demonstrators during the January 25 revolution. The union also demanded removing any members of the dissolved National Democratic Party (NDP) from jurisdiction and other institutions of the state.
The union also demanded restructuring of the Ministry of Interior, protecting the freedom and rights of citizens, bringing back the stolen money, suspending prosecution of civilians in military courts, and electing an institutional committee to establish a new constitution.
Members of April 6 movement threatened to organize a strike if the government did not respond to their main demands. Mohamed Adel said the demands include ensuring the public trial of Mubarak and the figures of the former regime and cleansing the Ministry of Interior and other governmental institutions. Adel said that if the government met these demands, they will suspend their strike and instead create dialogue about executing their other demands.
The Free Front for Peaceful Change (FFPC) said it was shameful that the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) withdrew itself from the strike. It added that it was thought that the group changed after the revolution and will now join civil powers. The movement also criticized the MB for not responding to their initiative to suspend the campaign for the constitution coming first in order to achieve a national accordance about the principles of the constitution.
FFPC proposed two scenarios to the military council to get the country out of its current crisis. One included overthrowing the constitutional announcement and establishing a civil council to lead the country during this transitional phase. The second was to overthrow the constitutional announcement and announce instead constitutional principles that have a national majority.
Hamdin Sabahi's presidential campaign demanded the military council to draw a map for the transitional stage and to delay the next parliamentary elections to the end of the year. They demanded forming an institutional committee to establish Egypt's new constitution first and then holding presidential elections.
The campaign expressed its respect to the military institution and its role in history to protect the country, and demanded the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to respond to the people's desire by taking immediate measures in order to restore their confidence.
