CAIRO: Four human rights organizations have refused the new laws regarding the People's Assembly and Shura Council – the upper and lower houses of the Egyptian parliament – that has been approved by the Council of Ministers. The organizations said the new law does not apply Egyptians' new rights or the principles of the January 25 Revolution. The organizations said the new law will greatly damage Egypt's political future because the law approves an individual election system which permits tribalism, families and capitalist control of elections. The organizations also said this system has damaged political life in Egypt before. In related news, Alaa Abdel Khalek, coordinator of the civil freedom, justice and democracy coalition, asked for the constitution and laws to be reformed to fall in line with the principles of the revolution. Abdel Khalek asked to cancel the Shura Council, enable the People's Assembly to supervise the government, issue a law for trying ministers and the president, and reduction of presidential powers.
