CAIRO: Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Energy, Hassan Younis, defended himself by stating that he is not an associate of the former regime. Younis, who has been holding his post since the 1990s, said he stood up against Gamal Mubarak and his helpers whilst stealing nuclear area from Dabaa in order to establish projects of tourism. The Minister added that former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and Former Minister of Finance Yousef Boutros Ghali were supporting Gamal in this. Younis revealed that Ghali offered to exempt the Nuclear Plant Authority from 800 million Egyptian pounds in exchange that it leaves the Dabaa land to Gamal. Younis denied reports that claim his Ministry exports electricity to Israel. He said Israel asked to import electricity as well as gas ever since the negotiation of gas export was reached. Younis said that he agreed to provide Gaza with electricity provided the electricity network is not linked to Israel. Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria called to import electricity at the cost of natural gas but Younis refused.
