An Egyptian court has sentenced Tarek Abdel Razak, accused of spying, and Eddie Moshe and Joseph Demor, Israeli Mossad officers, to 25 years in prison.
“Egypt is like a trap for Mossad agents,” said Israeli media.
“Egypt has succeed in condemning many Israelis and accusing them of spying against Egypt for Israel,” said Israeli media.
Ilan Grapel is the most recent Israeli citizen accused of spying against Egypt, and driving a wedge between the people and the army.
Tarek Abdel Razak, a 37 year-old Egyptian businessman, was also was accused of forming a spying network against Egypt and other Arab countries. He is known as “Indian trap.” Two Israeli officers were accused of helping Abdel Razak. The Egyptian court sentenced all of them to 25 years in prison.
The Egyptian authorities arrested a Canadian-Egyptian citizen in 2007. He was accused of spying for Israel along with three Israeli citizens. However, Israeli authorities denied these accusations and considered the case fabricated.
Egyptian authorities arrested another Israeli spy in 1996. Azzam Azzam, the Israeli citizen who worked at a textile company in Egypt, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. It was proven that he sent letters with secret ink by sea to Israel. However Azzam only spent eight years in Egyptian prison before being released in a prisoner exchange deal between Egypt and Israel.
