CAIRO: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) is under preparation between Egypt and India, said Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hussein al-Atfi. The memorandum aims at mutual experiences in fields of underground water and water desalination, Atfi added. During his meeting with Indian Ambassador in Cairo, R. Swaminathan, and his accompanying delegation, al-Atfi welcomed the mission of specialized Egyptian engineers to India for training courses and symposiums to exchange the experiences between two countries. Al-Atfi noted that his ministry has training centers and research institutes such as National Center for Training and Water Studies. The center has seats for 2,500 trainees. Egyptian-Indian cooperation will be widened in all fields through using treated sewage water in agriculture and benefiting from modern technology in discerning underground water by satellites and remote sensing devices. The minister and the ambassador discussed all bilateral cooperation in water resources development on the international and national arenas especially in underground water and water desalination. Swaminathan highlighted the depth of the relations between two countries. He described the relation as "historical.” The ambassador added that the next period will witness mutual visits between two states to increase trade, particularly in water management and irrigation development.
