Egypt's government has started to implement a new plan to treat 9-13 billion cubic meters of sanitary and agricultural drainage water to help solve the problem of limited water resources, said Irrigation Minister Hussein al-Atfy on Sunday. In his speech at the opening of Egyptian-Dutch Water Week, Atfy said the plan is part of Egypt's efforts to provide for increasing water needs and horizontal expansion in agriculture. Atfy added that the plan is to treat sewage and agricultural drainage water to be used for the irrigation of wood trees and gardens in conformance with Egyptian specifications. The advisory Egyptian-Dutch council urges facing water scarcity by expediting the treatment of agricultural and sanitary drainage water in Egypt. According to the council, individual shares of water have dropped to less than 700 cubic meters due to population growth.
