CAIRO: Cairo police arrested 62 suspects accused of starting clashes between Coptic Christians and other demonstrators outside Maspiro, the Egyptian television headquarters, on Saturday. Around 78 injured were reported amidst stone fights, gunfight and setting fire to a number of cars. Primary investigations revealed the clash was triggered when two felons, Khaled M.H., 22, and Mustafa H.M., 28, tried to pass in front of Maspiro riding a motorbike without being checked for safety reasons. The two felons started a fight with the demonstrators. They were both injured and were submitted to a hospital. They will be prosecuted before a military court. The investigation revealed a great number of people from nearby Abu el-Leila neighborhood moved to Maspiro to put an end to the Coptic demonstration. Traffic movement on the corniche, a major road which runs along the Nile, was paralyzed because of the size of the demonstration. Clashes resulted in gunfire and setting fire to cars. Police officers headed to Maspiro immediately to end clashes using tear gas bombs and military forces used armored vehicles.
