CAIRO: More than 4,000 Coptic Christians joined a sit-in outside Maspiro, the Egyptian television headquarters, yesterday despite a call from Pope Shenouda III, head of the Coptic Christian Church, to end the sit-in. The demonstrators refused to end their sit-in until their demands are met. They raised Egyptian flags and photos of Christian martyrs. Egyptian military forces intensified their presence at entrances and exits to Maspiro as more people made their way to the sit-in. Military forces checked the passers-by for security procedures, as did civilian checkpoints. Coptic Christians, who comprise around 10 percent of Egypt's population, have held a sit-in outside Maspiro since last Sunday over increasing sectarian tension.
